We had
a great event! At least 16 Imperials gathered, with
their owners, passengers and other admiring fans of the
marque. Starting before 10 a.m., these majestic
"land yachts" pulled into the Maritime Museum
parking lot, the later cars to a bigger crowd, of course.
Nannette Clark-Cook and Charlie Cook did a great job of
welcoming all and keeping a list of attendees. These
included Irving Axelrod, Bob Baker, Dick & Nancy
Benjamin, Kenneth Cassady, Nannette Clark Cook, Dave
Cleveland, David & Billie Doty, Art Flanders, Doug
Gilfillan, Franklin Golisch, Stewart Gordon, Lindsay Hudson,
Alison, Martha, Caitlin & Vernon Ikeler, Reinhold &
Lydia Klein, Ken Knox, Denis & Martha Lardner, John
Lloyd, Larry Maroney, Bill & Jan McPheeters, Zvonko
& Tony Mihovilovich, Norman Phair, Mark Pickard, Barry
Poynter, J. Christopher Reynolds, Stuart Riggs, Don Savard,
Bob Schmitt & Dawn Saunders, Alan Schweir, Norm
Silverman, Ben Taniguchi, Dennis Thurmond, Jay Weinert, Greg
Wright & son Benjamin and perhaps others - whom may have
missed the sign-in with Nannette. Thanks to all for
coming and more thanks to those who brought an Imperial!
The cars were great also, and we were rewarded by a
"mystic" visit by the '56 Parade Phaeton, as noted
on the opening page.
Our meeting was in the museum's Brass Room, a very colorful
location decorated with many brass ship's "titles"
from vessels which were scrapped at the harbor. 30 of
our Imperial owners and friends were at the meeting.
I'll skip writing about the meeting tedium, except to note
that all the club officers remain the same, except Dave Doty
will be the new president for Year 2K! And we
discussed amending the club bylaws to institute dues.
Our crowd declined just a little to a group of 25 when we
assembled for lunch at the Acapulco, but this filled our
reserved table perfectly.
I stayed much later, but still never got to see the whole
museum or the rest of Port's O'Call Village. As Gen. Doug
boasted once, "I shall return!" Thanks to
the staff of the Los Angeles
Maritime Museum for a great location.
This
was the announcement mailed to the Club members:
Greetings!
The last Southern California Imperial
Owners event of this millennium and annual business meeting
- including an election of officers - will be Sunday,
December 5, 1999 at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum, San
Pedro. We’re planning for a grand assembly of "Land
Yachts" in this picturesque location!
After an 11 a.m. guided tour of the
Museum, we’ll have our annual business meeting and
election of officers at noon (approximately) in a Museum
meeting room. We’ll then adjourn for lunch at the Acapulco
Restaurant* adjacent to the Museum and enjoy the harbor
view. Museum admission and parking are free!
This is an important
election - the new officers will plan our Club’s hosting
of the 2001 Statewide Meet!
Please
contact Nannette Clark Cook (619-277-9870), Dave Doty
(562-864-5410) or Bob
Schmitt (818-563-1419, bsbrbank@pacbell.net) so we can
get a lunch count, if you have officer nominations or any
meeting agenda suggestions.
